THE United State of America has tasked the Adamma Barrow-led government in The Gambia on transparency, good governance, and human rights after Jammeh's ouster.
Jammeh's long reign was notorious for its reign of terror, according to the US Ambassador to The Gambia, Amb. C. Patrica Alsup.
While speaking at a three-day seminar for Gambian parliamentarians on Good Governance and Rule of Law, the US diplomat said her country does not lose sight of the challenges Gambia faces from its transition from autocratic to civil democratic rule.
The US she added will do all in its powers to provide an enabling environment to guide the new legislators to create a democratic space in the course of their legislative business.
Her words: “I am confident that Gambian lawmakers will work tirelessly to fully restore the integrity of this critical arm of the government. We are political parties and one independent member, all elected in a free and fair election.''
Responding, the Gambia Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mariam Jack Denton said the National Assembly of The Gambia expressed satisfaction and said the Gambia is proud to be associated with the US good governance and rule of law.
