The Nigerian Army has released the promotions of 468 full lieutenants who the Army Council has elevated to the rank of captains. A circular signed by Army Secretary Major General I.O. Rabiu, showed that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai directed the release of the promotion of the officers on July 19 following earlier approval by the Nigerian Army Council.
The promotions took effect from June 2016 for some officers whose promotions were unduly delayed while many others will take effect from November 2017.
The last promotion exercise in December 2016 saw 227 officers elevated to different ranks, including 21 to Major-Generals. According to an internal memo signed by Major General Rabiu the Military Secretary, “officers will not wear their new ranks until they are officially authorised by their commanders.”
All promotions will be promulgated in the Army Orders and federal government gazette upon completion of paperwork by the Army authorities.
