The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, yesterday, dismissed as rumour, media reports that he has endorsed the National Auditor of the APC, Chief George Moghalu, as his preferred choice for the Anambra governorship election.
Media reports had it that Ngige, in a meeting in his Alor home in Idemili South Local Government Area, purportedly recommended Moghalu to the stakeholders and urged them to support him.
Ngige, in a telephone interview, yesterday, said he had not endorsed anybody in the race.
He said he rather called a meeting of stakeholders of the party, including governorship aspirants, where he urged them to either look for a consensus candidate for the poll or reduce the aspirants to two.
“I told them that we can’t go into our primary with 10 aspirants... We need to look for a consensus candidate or trim down our aspirants to two before going into the primary,” he said.
Ngige further said a three-man committee was set up to work out modalities of arriving at a consensus candidate or pruning down the aspirants.
