I need my husband's dead body, if they have killed him - Wife of Nnamdi Kanu's co-accused tells DSS

The wife of one of the co-accused in the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has called on the federal government to release her husband.

Charity Ishinwa said that her husband, Bright 'Chimezie' Ishinwa was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) over a year.

"My husband is in detention for one year plus; they don't want to release him to us. He has families, he has children; my children have not been to school since he was arrested.

"I need his dead body, if they have killed him, they should give me his dead body, let me go an bury him well.

"The Nigerian army and the DSS they barged into his room and took him away since one year plus. They have not even brought him to court.

"Whatever crime he committed, even if he killed someone he needs to be judged," Charity said.

She added: "Since last year August, I and my four kids have not seen my husband, everyday they are seeking and asking of their father. Is it easy for me?"

Bright Chimezie was arrested in August 2016 following allegations of his involvement with Nnamdi Kanu and the activities of the IPOB.

However, a Federal High Court sitting in Uyo in its ruling on an application filed by the IPOB against the DSS over the violation of Bright's fundamental right ordered the immediate release of the pro-Biafra agitator.

The court in its ruling in June 2017 also ordered the DSS to pay N5 million compensation to the agitator and his family.

IPOB leader failed to appear in court on Tuesday, October 17, for the commencement of his trial.

However, the co-defendants in the matter were in the court alongside some other prominent Nigerians who stood in solidarity with them.

Some of these Nigerians include two former ministers of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and Osita Chidoka who is currently the flag bearer of the United Progressive party in the forthcoming Anambra gubernatorial election.
