IPOB: Saraki’s statement personal opinion, says Presidency

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, says Senate President Bukola Saraki’s statement on the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra is his personal opinion and not that of the Senate.

Adesina said this during an interview with American-based Nigerian journalist, George Otumu, after attending the United Nations General Assembly.

Saraki, had in a statement on Monday, described the military’s declaration of IPOB as a terrorist organisation as illegal. He also said the South-East governors who announced the proscription of IPOB had no powers to do so. He said there were legal processes to making such declarations.

In his reaction, however, Adesina said, “The Senate President must have conveyed a private opinion, as the Upper House was still on recess when he said what he said.”
