A Kano-based activist and member of the Civil Society group, Miss Maryam Ibrahim, on Friday in Kano challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to beam its light on the corrupt activities of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
The young activist who participated in an interactive session organized by EFCC boss, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, with Civil Society Organizations (CLO), insisted that the EFCC under the chairmanship of Magu has done very little to investigate high-power corruption going on in the space of NGOs in Nigeria.
Maryam further advised the anti-graft agency to expand its dragnet and clean the rot in NGOs and other CLOs.
However, in his address during the interactive session which held at EFCC’s Kano Zonal office, acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, insisted that the anti-graft commission under his watch must win the war against corruption.
Magu maintained his resolve and determination to strengthen the fight against corruption in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda.
In his views, “the war against corruption is a continuous exercise which must to be won, as Nigeria aspires to have corrupt-free society.”
According to him, "there is no way corruption will continue in this country. We have president and the Vice President that are serious on war against corruption. This is the only period in the history of Nigeria to have government that is serious against corruption.
“The war against corruption is for the survival of the country and our main goal is to ensure corrupt free society.
"Corruption has also caused deterioration in the quality of infrastructure, healthcare delivery and education among others. So it is our duty to ensure we fight the scourge of it.
"The looters were just few who are not up to 10,000 in the society compared to the population of the country of over one million peoples, we will make sure to save the country from the scourge of corruption.
"We can do it because we have the advantage of the number to push them out. Fighting corruption in the country is compulsory to have better society.”
