Set up medical panel to determine if Buhari is incapacitated - Group tells Osinbajo, Saraki

Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's acting president and Senate President Bukola Saraki, have been told to set up a medical panel to ascertain whether President Muhammadu Buhari is incapacitated. The group said this falls under the provisions of Section 144 sub-section 4 of the Nigerian Constitution.

The group further demanded that the president must address the nation by live video by Thursday, according to Sahara Reporters. Failure of President Buhari to do this, the group said, will result in organised protests across the country and even beyond. In a statement signed by Deji Adeyanju and secretary John Danfulani, the group said that: “If the President is found with any infirmity that renders him incapable of discharging his duties, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall officially declare him incapable of discharging his duties and declare his office vacant as prescribed in subsection 2 of section 143.” 

“To this end, we urge President Buhari to address the nation via a live video on or before the 60th day (2 days from today) of his absence,” it urged. Going further, the group demanded that all major media outlets should be present at the live broadcast. “In failing to do so, we will begin a series of peaceful processions and mass action across the country such as [in] Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kaduna and also outside the country in London and New York aimed at sensitizing the public as to the legal & constitutional crisis created by President Buhari’s continued absence from office and the insistence of the cabal to shield him away from his constituents, the Nigerian people.” “Concerned Nigerians” is said to be a pro-democracy group committed to accountability, rule of law, good governance and the fight against corruption. NAIJ.com had earlier reported that a three million-man rally for President Muhammadu Buhari has been held in Owerri, the Imo state capital amid calls for Biafra agitation that has ravaged the southeast region.

The solidarity rally tagged three million-man march’ for President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Rochas Okorocha, was organized on Tuesday, July 4, by a coalition of youth groups who said they were showing appreciation for the good governance, fight against corruption and exemplary leadership by the Buhari administration.
