Ondo PDP begins reconciliation with Sheriff’s faction

The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday commenced reconciliatory move with members of the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the party, with a view to re-uniting the party in Ondo State.

The reconciliatory move followed a recent judgment of the Supreme Court which declared Makarfi as the authentic chairman of the PDP. The party, at the end of its stakeholders’ meeting in Akure yesterday, resolved to absolve members of the Sheriff’s faction into the fold.

Chairman of the party in the state, Clement Faboyede while addressing members at the end of the meeting, assured that executive of the Sheriff’s faction will be considered for leadership positions in the party. He also promised members of his faction would not discriminate with those of Sheriff’s, stressing that the two factions have become one. Faboyede said efforts are on top gear to ensure members of the Sheriff’s faction join the party, adding that meetings have been scheduled with leaders of the faction.

His words: “We thank God for the survival of democracy in Nigeria as pivoted by the Supreme Court judgment on the leadership tussle of the PDP. After this judgment, there had been two or three national meetings, which we are also part of but this is the inaugural meeting of the party in the state after the Supreme Court judgment.

“This is our first meeting of the ‘born again’ PDP and the attendance is encouraging and involved all cadres of party leaders from ward level to state level, and we have been able to chart a new way forward for our party.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to members of PDP that are still aggrieve to come back home and let’s work together again. There is nothing we can gain from quarrelling. The umbrella is big enough to accommodate everybody and the PDP is a party rule by constitution.

“The factional chairman of the Sheriff’s group was a delegate in the days of our congress and he actually nominated the current public relations officer of the party.

“It is our duty to accommodate everybody as there was no victor and no vanquish. I want to appeal to all of them that we don’t solve problem by creating another problem and they should have good mind of reconciliation and come back home.”

Faboyede assured Sheriff’s faction members would not be disciplined for anti-party activities.
