Benue State University lecturers begin indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, Benue State Chapter, yesterday rose from its meeting and commenced an indefinite strike, to press home their demands.
The members rose from the  prolong meeting held at the Theater Arts complex of the university presided over by the union chairman, Professor U. Ikoni also in attendance is  the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Moses Kyande.Some of the issues raised by the ASUU include; unpaid Earned academic allowance EAA, absence of a Health Insurance scheme, Pension plan, Appointment of Principal Officers in the University by the government and delayed in the payment of staff salaries, payment of death benefits to its members, among many other things.
The University ASUU chairman read the resolution of the National Executive Council of ASUU upon visitation to the branch.
The National Executive Council of the union had sent a three man delegation to Benue State University ASUU early this week upon a request from the branch Chairman on behalf of the branch seeking the permission from the National body to proceed on strike.
The BSU, ASUU in a congress that lasted several hours yesterday interacted with the team which had investigated and deliberated on several issues affecting members of the union.
At the time Nigerian Tribune visited the university, no lecturer was seen attending to students especially the final year students who are currently writing their projects.
