Meanwhile, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has expressed chagrin surprise at the undetected hibernation of the kidnappers in his state, saying, he never knew the kidnappers were residing with the children in their creeks. Meantime, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP, Fatai Owoseni, narrated how the rescue operation was carried out, during a late world press conference, held at the Lagos State deputy Governor’s Office. Alausa, Ikeja, attended by Akeredolu, Lagos State deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, Commissioner for Health, Dr, Jide Idris, and other state Executive members.
Addressing the media, Owoseni narrated, “The militants during encounter, also tried to steal some police and naval gun boat. On 18th of July, the kidnappers tried to ambushed police and marine post in one of the communities in Ondo State and take the gun boat. “The attack was led by the kingpin within that axes, Bright Dabo Adeniye and Oniwe Iyelabi, popularly called America were killed. “Adeniye, who led the abduction and his 16-gang members were the first group to meet their waterloo during encounter with our men. “Iyelabi, popularly called, America, died during the encounter with the police.
“In order to achieve swift rescue, we engaged some of the parents, ad in the process, we engaged some Psychologists who constantly gave us assurance. And that led to the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, reassuring the parents recently, that the children will be rescued alive.” According to him, specifically on July 18, the kidnappers tried to ambushed police and marine posts in one of the community in Ondo State and take the gun boat.
The attack was led by the kingpin within that axis, Iyelabi, popularly called America. But during the process, he met his waterloo. He died during the encounter with the police. “Aside the kidnappers, one civilian volunteer assisting us died during the process while eight policemen and four volunteer sustained wounds while rescuing the students from their abductors,” he added. Owoseni, however, said that one person was arrested and detained,.
CP added that in order to achieve swift rescue, “we engaged some of the parents. And some psychologists with constant assurance that led to the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, reassuring the parents recently that the children will be rescued.” Owoseni, assured residents that with the support from six South-West governors, they were combat ready to ensure that no kidnap case occur within the region, saying, there will be no hiding place for criminals again.
